Millions of people around the world make a resolution to lose weight every year.  Many of them will include exercise in their resolution and most of them will fail within five or six months because they didn’t make a realistic plan or decided on a plan they couldn’t follow.

Losing weight is not easy, but it doesn’t have to be extremely difficult either.  You have to be able to live with the plan and enjoy the exercise.  Making a weight loss plan that you don’t enjoy ensures you won’t stick with it and that’s setting yourself up to fail.

It doesn’t matter whether you are lifting weights, running or playing sports, you are already on your way to a revolutionary weight loss experience.  Exercise is one of the key components to a proper and healthy weight loss.

How do I Start An Exercise Program?

Before you jog your first half mile or lift your first barbell, you need to decide what your goals are for your weight loss program.

Keep in mind and remind yourself that putting on pounds didn’t happen overnight and neither is taking off the pounds. 

You will need to have a program that will be flexible enough to fit it into your daily life and exercise regularly enough that you will can see a change and start to reap the benefits immediately.

If you’re extremely overweight or have enjoyed a fairly sedentary lifestyle in recent years, a trip to your doctor is the first step to take. You want to make sure there are no underlying medical issues that might interfere with your plan.  You should never start a new exercise program without talking to your doctor first.

Before you do anything, select an exercise program that you will enjoy doing. This makes it easier to get going at the beginning, when learning techniques and gaining the proper motivation can be more difficult.

For some people, enjoyable exercise might be a brisk walk or a jog around the neighborhood. For others it could be joining a class to lift weights or perhaps learn yoga, zumba or Pilates.

Losing weight is never an easy undertaking but the theory behind every successful program is simple; all you have to do is find a way to make your body burn more calories than you take in.

Dieting alone may not be enough to meet your goals, and so in addition to taking in fewer calories, you have to also find a way to increase physical activity to increase your metabolism and burn more calories.  This is where an exercise plan will let you get the full benefit of a successful weight loss and fitness program.

There’s no motivation better than looking and feeling good to to help you stick with a weight loss and exercise program.  It’s  much easier than if your motivation is only the numbers on the scale.
